WORDS like outstanding seem inadequate when trying to explain the events that international adventurer and writer Rosie Swale Pope proposes to undertake for Age Concern.
She was incredible and enthusiastic as she talked to Age Concern Sir Gâr's annual general meeting on Wednesday, October 3, about her forthcoming marathon runs in aid of the keep 'Fit for Life Appeal'.
Rosie amusingly related stories from her own life when at the time of her 55th birthday she recalled all the adventures which she's had. Included was her lone crossing of the Atlantic and how she was nearly mowed down at sea by a passing tanker? Also, of how her son was born in a small boat when she was circumnavigating the world. She spoke of marathons completed in the Sahara, in the Alps and it seemed in almost every country in the world.
But most of all, she brought the audience to an abrupt realisation that she was able to achieve all this by enjoying raising funds to help others.
During October and November, Rosie Swale Pope will be running over 850 miles to encourage older people in Wales to keep Fit for Life. On October 27, she will run the Eastbourne Marathon, on October 28 the Snowdon Marathon, and on October 29, the Dublin Marathon. Then, as though three back to back marathons were not enough, she will run the Cuba Marathon on November 18, followed by 750 miles west-east coast Cuba run!
All sponsorship money collected will help the Age Concern Cymru Fit for Life Appeal.
Sue Sharpe, of Age Concern Sir Gâr, said: "Rosie was an outstanding speaker and her eagerness to run for the benefit of the local older people was both touching and overwhelming in its generosity."
