A thousand local schoolchildren have taken part in lively storytelling sessions in Pembroke, Milford Haven and Fishguard, as part of a national campaign called 'Read a Million Words'. The sessions took place with illustrator and author Rob Scotton at Pembroke Town Hall, the Meads CP School and Theatr Gwaun. With help from the children, Rob Scotton, creator of Russell the Sheep and Splat the Cat, told the story of 'Russell and the Lost Treasure'. He then showed volunteers from the audience how to draw Russell, with very original and individual results. The events were sponsored by the Basic Skills Agency in support of the Read a Million Words campaign. The campaign encourages schools, classes and individual children to rise to the challenge of becoming 'word millionaires' by logging all the reading they do throughout each day in reading diaries.
