Last Saturday, despite the cold and overcast conditions, 18 walkers turned out and enjoyed an 11.5 mile walk in the St. David's area. Several new faces joined the group and everyone was pleased to welcome them. Starting from Whitesands Car Park, the group set off southwest along the coast path to reach the beach at Porthselau. Here they turned inland over paths, track and lanes heading for the rocky outcrop of Clegyr-Boia. Skirting the southern end of Trefeiddan Moor, where a very boggy and difficult passage was encountered, they joined the track to Treginnis Lodge. Turning south, they crossed fields to rejoin the coast path at Porthlysgi and made their way east to arrive at the small harbour of Porth Clais. Here a short break was taken for lunch. Revitalised, they continued along the coast to St. Non's and then turned inland once more to make for St. David's. After passing the Cathedral, they climbed the hill alongside the Palace ruins to join the road towards St. Justinian. After about half-a-mile, they turned northwards over fields and tracks to join the road to Whitesands Bay. Here three of the group took the road back to the car park having completed nine miles. The rest continued on via the Youth Hostel to the lower slopes of Carn Llidi, finally, to rejoin the coast path back to Whitesands. The next series of walks in the programme are: Sunday, January 15 - a short walk around Marloes, leader Alison Ross (tel. 01348 841076); Sunday, January 22 - a medium walk around Marros, leader Madeleine Bland (tel. 01646 651677); Saturday, January 28 - a short linear walk from Wisemans Bridge back to Tenby, leader Mike Thorne (tel. 01834 842145).
