More than a bus load of 29 members from Pembrokeshire Ramblers met last Saturday for a walk which started at West Angle, with firstly a bus ride to Freshwater West.

There was only one other passenger already on the bus when it arrived at West Angle, but there were too many for the little 16-seater 'Coastal Cruiser', and so a dozen ramblers had to drive to the Freshwater West beach car park. No doubt the bus company was glad of the trade in the middle of winter, even if over half of the group used their free bus passes.

From Freshwater West, the task was to walk the five or six miles back to West Angle along the coast path, starting with the long stretch of beach. As the tide was low, the leader opted to take a short cut over the rocks near the water's edge; this ended up as a bit of a scramble, and the leader's decision was much criticised.

However, a coffee stop repaired frayed nerves, and then it was footpath all the way back up and down the many ravines on this stretch of coast.

The wind was stronger than expected, and so lunch was taken in a hollow on the cliffs near Sheep Island. At least it stayed dry, and everybody agreed that the walk had blown away a lot of festive cobwebs.

This Sunday, there is a medium/long walk around Mynydd Dinas starting at 10.30 am from Pwllgwaelod. For further details, ring Graham on 01437 764770.
