The second Friendly Foursomes looked like being a wet and cold one as the first pairings went out. It was colder than it had been for the winter Frostbite series! However, the sun came out on the second hole and by the fourth we were stripping off the layers.
Ten pairings went out. Sadly not enough men had signed up, but the last two pairs were ladies. Since this is a social occasion, they were allowed to partake in the competition and all agreed they had had great fun.
The course was magnificent and playing well, if the scores are anything to go by. The 14 holes passed all too quickly, which is always a sign of enjoyable golf. Two pairs achieved twos - Geoff Aston and Marion Clarke on the sixth and Nigel Ayers and Irene Gilman on the 12th.
The bag draw, which was drawn by the Pro Shop, was won by Bev Owen and John Gilman.
All the scoring was respectable, but the runners-up were Rob Hall and Eiona Aston with 28 points. The winners with a superb 32 were Nigel Ayers and Irene Gilman (pictured right).
Nigel gave a lovely speech in which he thanked his playing partner and said how much he enjoyed the Friendly Foursomes format.
There was a lovely atmosphere in the clubhouse afterwards as we all enjoyed the 'specials' menu put on by Steve and Hilary. Thanks to them and their staff for a super evening. Thanks also to David in the Pro Shop for doing the cards and coming back with the vouchers; and to Chris Jenkins and his staff for the superb condition of the course.
The next mixed event is our only Foursomes Medal on Sunday, May 23 (the list is up), then couples are needed for the Mixed Open on Sunday, June 6 (please support your club). Finally, the ever-popular Sam Ackerman is on Friday, June 18. This is a foursomes stableford over 18 holes, with a draw for partners. The list will be going up soon.
