Planned works to carry out repairs to part of Tenby’s railway bridge need to be brought forward a local councillor proposed this week.
A temporary overnight road closure at Lower Park Road, from its junction with Penally Road, west to its junction with Quarry Cottages, has been scheduled for later this month to carry out an inspection of part of the town’s railway bridge, but Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown believes that works are required sooner.
“It’s very, very dangerous there, and kids are playing around a big hole. Something needs to be done before there is a big accident,” she told her colleagues at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, referring to a section at the end of the bridge in Station Road on the Clareston Court side.
“The corner stones and bricks have been moved around, and all that’s covering that section is a cone and some tape,” she continued.
The town clerk said that the road closure was due to take place from 11 pm on Thursday, November 24, until 6 am the following morning, with Network Rail requesting the restriction to carry out an examination of the railway bridge.
The Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, suggested that Network Rail and Pembrokeshire County Council be contacted urgently to see if repair works could be carried out sooner.
