Hunt members and supporters turned out in large numbers on Sunday for another great Point to Point steeplechase meeting held over the superb Cilwendeg course at Boncath. The day was overcast, but comfortably warm and the course and racing conditions again proved to be excellent. Mark Lewis stood out as a jockey winning the Members race on the seven-year-old bay mare, Eastwell Violet, owned and trained by John Barton, and the Restricted on the seven-year-old Irish bred bay gelding which he trained and is owned by his father, Dewi Lewis. Leading jockey in this season's ladies championship, Isobel Thompsett, rode the race of the day coming from behind on the run in to win on the 7-1 outsider, the 10-year-old Vale of Clettwr qualifier, Lost Treasure, owned and trained by Wyn Thomas. A strange occurrence was in the Men's Open when the race was declared void after all the runners had repeatedly refused at the water jump or one of the hurdles. Happily, there were no reported injuries to the runners or jockeys in any of the races. The organisers express their most sincere appreciation to all officials, sponsors and supporters for again making the event possible. Race results: Members (sponsored by Ieuan Williams, Building Contractors): 1. Eastwell Violet (Mark Lewis) evens; 2. Hunter Gold (Bridget Lewis). Confined (David Griffiths, Tirydail Dairy and Kevin Taylor, LA Warehouses): 1. Itsallupintheair (Jodie Hughes) 1-5 fav; 2. Noaff (Michael Williams). Men's Open (West Wales Financial Services): Void.
