Tenby ladies rugby team started their season with an emphatic win over Aberystwyth.

On a blustery afternoon at Heywood Lane, they put all the weeks of hard training with coach Gareth Brace into good practice.

Some strong running by the forwards and swift handling by the backs enabled Rachael Lewis to cross for her first try of the match.

The forwards continued to dominate up front, with Shane Worrall and Clare Taylor being most effective at the breakdown.

After continued pressure and numerous scrums near the Aber line, the ball went loose; three Tenby players dived for it and Clare Taylor emerged claiming the try, which Lisa Jones converted.

The visitors responded to this and came back with a try of their own.

But resilient Tenby responded, with Lisa Jones running 50 yards to score a spectacular try, which she converted.

The scrum-half also capped a solid performance with a try before the turnaround.

Tenby went into the second half determined to build on their 24-5 lead.

Front row forwards Natalie Bowen, Lesley Burns and Chris Page all took the ball forward with strong positive runs and centre Rachel Lewis was ever-present in linking moves.

The centre partnership of Jackie and Rachel proved most effective, with good handling and support runs, which enabled Rachael to score two consecutive tries and give her a hat-trick for the match.

This gave Tenby a very pleasing 36-5 win.

There was some solid performances put in by the whole team, with Catrin and Lindsay, making their debuts, both doing extremely well.

The ladies would like to thank John the Candy and Lloyd Evans for their kind support.
