A local county councillor wants answers to questions over the future of Narberth's former school building.
Clr. Wynne Evans has tabled a number of questions for the next full meeting of Pembrokeshire County Council's cabinet regarding the future of the former CP School building in the centre of the town, which has been empty for 16 months.
"The county council has been vague about its intentions regarding the future of this building, so I will be asking if this property is to go on the open market or not, and when the county council intend making a decision about the future of this site," said Clr. Evans.
"This building is now attracting vandals and is becoming quite an eyesore. Nearly every day I'm asked what is going to happen to the old school and my answer, unfortunately, remains that the county council are still undecided, which is totally unacceptable as a definite answer is now required," he continued, explaining that he was also very grateful to local MP Nick Ainger for his support in contacting County Hall and voicing his own concerns.
With the possible introduction of car parking charges being brought in for the Town Moor car park for the first time, Clr. Evans intends to stress to the cabinet that consideration be given to the existing playground being included in the proposed pay and display.
"With 60 parking spaces in the playground, the car spaces are essential for the continued growth of a vibrant town and, long term financially, regular income from those 60 spaces will outweigh any possible sale of the playground for development," he added.
A spokesperson for Pembrokeshire County Council confirmed that a report on the future of the old Narberth School was being prepared for the council's cabinet.
