Lamphey resident Betty James, aged 91, had quite the surprise on Tuesday, March 15 when she received a well deserved letter from none other than the lady in waiting on behalf of the Queen herself.

Betty, originally born in Templeton but moved to Lamphey after her marriage, has a talent for knitting crocheted blankets and is renowned for regularly gifting these to her friends and family or donating them to local charity raffles.

As 2022 marks the Queen’s iconic Platinum Jubilee, Betty decided to send three of her crocheted blankets for the Queen’s Corgis. She was delighted upon receiving a letter from the Lady in Waiting which read:

“The Queen wishes me to thank you for your message, and the splendid crocheted blankets dog blankets you so kindly sent on the occasion of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. The Queen has been most touched by the loyalty and support received throughout her long reign and greatly appreciates your thoughtfulness at this time.”
