Sir,
I refer to Mike Baker’s letter in the July 22 edition of the Observer.
I raised the same issues last year with Saundersfoot Community Council and had dialogue to say it would progress.
I also had e-mails back to say it would be discussed in Welsh Assembly, but obviously no further progress.
I offered to make and erect signs forbidding the over fishing of cockles. I also offered to make them bilingual. That offer still applies.
The public cannot approach these people if there is nothing to say they are wrongdoing.
For the avoidance of doubt, it is ridiculous what is happening. Never mind the cockles, mussels, limpets, winkles and basically and living thing is being stripped from the beaches and rocks.
If it moves its fair game.
Put the signs up and at least the locals can fight back.
The public will react if the support is there.
Allen Evans,
Saundersfoot
