Over £500 has been raised for a world-wide charity for land-mine victims from the 'Festival of Puddings' organised by Soroptomist International of Tenby and District on Saturday.
The Red Cross's 'Limbs for Life' appeal is the Soroptomist International Quadrennial project, and working with the International Red Cross, it has pledged to raise £500,000. The theme chose by Tenby Soroptimist president Pam Maggs for her year of office is 'What Price a Limb?', and the Festival of Puddings was the third fund-raising event for the cause.
Held at the Fourcroft Hotel, the evening featured entertainment from two groups of young people who were able to perform so well because they had the full use of their limbs.
They were 'Undecided', the latest band to come from Tenby's Greenhill School, who gave the audience a taste of their musical talent, and members of the Hynes School of Irish Dancing with their beautiful costumes and lively routines.
During the entertainment, guests were served with a complimentary glass of wine, provided by James Williams, of Narberth, before the challenge of the 'Festival of Puddings' began.
Eight delicious desserts were then served up in four courses, followed by coffee and mints, which proved to be a most enjoyable - if waist-expanding - experience!
The evening was attended by representatives of other Soroptomist clubs throughout Pembrokeshire, and there was a generous reponse to the raffle, with an array of prizes which had all been donated. The final total which will be donated to the 'Limbs for Life' appeal is not yet known, but will be well over £500.
President Pam Maggs thanked everyone who had helped make the evening so enjoyable for such a worthy cause. "The event was very well supported, and we would like to thank the young people who entertained us so well and the management and staff of the Fourcroft Hotel for their professional attention and fabulous puddings," she said.
