Sir,

With reference to the press statement by PCC, published August 17, regarding the civic amenity site, may we please address some of the points made by Clr.Ken Rowlands.

Firstly, the published proposed plan has omitted the detail of the site. Had it been included, your readers would have clearly seen, that, in addition to recycling facilities, the drawings actually detail a hazardous waste area and a quarantine area.

The 'negligible' increase of 700 vehicles a day will be accessing the site from a very busy road, which the current 9,900 cars use as a through road. The traffic accessing the site from Tenby and surrounding areas, will turn into the site using the middle access lane that is already frequently, incorrectly used as an overtaking lane. The traffic accessing from the Kilgetty side will be stopping on the main road to turn into the site.

The compact shed for the 'residual waste' is situated 112m from the closest end of Brooklands nursing home. It is at this end that two of the residents have their bedrooms. One only has to pass a bin lorry in the street, to catch the stench that comes from it. Perhaps the councillors would like their bedroom to be located in such relative proximity to the shed?

The construction period for this proposal will take some nine months, which in itself will create considerable noise, dust and disruption to Brooklands, and then when the site becomes operative, Brooklands will then have to endure the additional noise of 700 extra cars, lorries and activity generated by this site.

The proposed site is at present a very pleasant green field; the only noise generated now is from the song birds who frequent this beautiful area at present.

We absolutely agree that the elderly and infirm should not have to negotiate steps at the Salterns. Perhaps in this double dip recession PCC could consider employing people to take their rubbish up the steps for them?

PCC may believe that the site is the 'most appropriate', the 2,000-plus people who have signed the petition, including the 774 signatures on the ipetition, believe otherwise, with one of the most commonly used words to describe the proposal site being 'inappropriate'.

The 'concern' of PCC may be the 'misconceptions being bandied about'. Our concern is for our residents, our 40 elderly, vulnerable residents, who have the right to be treated with dignity and respect and end their days in peace and quiet.
