A proposal for traffic calming measures through the village of Begelly is now under review.

The purpose of the scheme is to address concerns raised by local residents and councillors including - the poor quality, intermittent footway, and pedestrian safety and to give greater opportunities for walking and cycling, County Councillor for the ward Cllr Alistair Cameron told members of Kilgetty and Begelly Community Council recently.

The current scheme proposal includes - traffic calming, reduced road width to maximise the footway, pedestrian crossings, and improvements to junctions.

“A bid for funding will be made to the Welsh Government and we should know the outcome by early April,” said Cllr Cameron.

“When and if funding is approved, there will be more formal consultation. However, objections have been expressed overusing chicanes to slow down traffic and these have been passed to Pembrokeshire County Council’s engineering team to consider.”

The Local Authority applied last year for Welsh Government funding to install two vehicle activated speed signs along the A478 in Begelly in order to help implement the new 20 mph limit.

Residents in Begelly have long voiced their concerns over speeding vehicles heading through the village, especially with many families visiting local attraction Folly Farm nearby.
