Sir, Regarding the current disastrous state of the South Beach and my previous letter (May 31 issue) outlining the causes, I expected some sort of rebuttal or comment about my remarks. Not a bit of it. Nothing, nix. Nothing from the Tenby council, nothing from the Pembrokeshire County Council, nothing from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, nothing from the so-called expert consultant presumably employed by the Pembrokeshire County Council to tell us everything is OK and the sand for the beach will return naturally.
Was this a shut up, ignore it and the problem will go away? Don’t these people care? Wake up. This is not going to happen. There is serious coastal erosion going on here and it requires intervention. Wake up Tenby. The tourists who bring their hard-earned money to support your economy deserve better. Where is your voice? You should be shouting it from the rooftops or at least questioning your representatives as to what they are going to do about it. This cannot be allowed to go on. It will get worse!
There is talk of dredging required outside Tenby Harbour because of a build up of sand. Where do you think this is coming from? The South Beach of course. The Old Lifeboat Slip is another example of this. You can now walk around the bottom of the slip. This was never possible in the past. Similarly, the base of the cliffs between the New Lifeboat Slip and the Castle Sands were never exposed at low tide. Now you can at low tide walk on sand between the two. The build up of sand again from the South Beach.
There needs to be less comforting talk and a proper plan, followed up by action to deal with this situation, the sooner the better. Let’s hear it.
