The 2002/3 season has started off well for Tenby Ladies hockey team. They started the season by beating Crymych and Milford and then narrowly losing to league champions Carmarthen, to whom they were runners-up in the league last season. They then went on to play Llanelli in the first round of the Welsh Shield, beating them 1-0.

They travelled to Milford last Sunday to play Pembroke. After starting a little nervously, the team soon found their feet and started producing some excellent play in midfield through Jude, Mandy and Mims, with some excellent chances on goal being created for the forward line.

Tenby managed to capitalise on this pressure with some quick passing from the defence, up through the field, where Annie R. produced a fantastic shot on goal, helped in by Pauline.

They started the second-half with a calm, yet determined attitude, which proved beneficial, when they scored another brilliant goal by Pauline following lots of persistent play from the forwards.

And that's how the score remained, with Tenby winning the game 2-0. Thanks go to coach Dave Miller.

The team is looking forward to the final game of the first half of the season against Fishguard.

They would also like to send a huge thank you to all the sponsors of match balls last season: T. P. Hughes; Martin Hurlow; F. B. Mason; Lowless and Lowless; the Evergreen Inn; Pete Handicott; Rowe's Butchers; Five Arches Tavern; Tenby House Hotel; Charles Birt and Co.; Heatherton; JT's and Hope and Anchor. Also Tenby Round Table and Mike Evans for his continued support.

The team is now looking for sponsorship for this season and any help from local businesses etc. would be gratefully received. New players are also encouraged to join them. They are currently training at Tenby Leisure Centre on Tuesday evenings at 7.30 pm.
