J. Howard Griffiths, who was born and brought up in Fishguard, joined Rotary in 1986 whilst working for the HSBC Bank in Prestatyn, North Wales. One year later he was transferred to the Tenby branch and joined the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot where he was president twice.

Following his retirement in 1995, he became much more involved in Rotary and accepted the role of treasurer from 1996 to 2001 and then governor of District 1150, which covers Mid Wales, South Wales and West Wales for the year 2003 to 2004.

For some three years, he served on the finance committee of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland which administers 1,839 clubs representing 56,489 Rotarians(figures as at January 1, 2008) and from July 1, 2007, he was elected to the prestigious position of honorary treasurer, bringing much credit to himself and to Pembrokeshire Rotary in general.

The Rotary Doctor Bank has also benefited from his experience where he served for some 10 years as treasurer and he has also found time to assist many other voluntary organisations, in particular, the RNLI in Tenby for whom he has worked for some 20 years and he is currently the chairman of the Tenby station and treasurer of the local fund-raising branch.
