Following on from concerns raised about bins not being emptied enough in parts of Tenby, one of the problem bins pointed out now looks set to be removed.
Councillors recently received correspondence from the proprietors of D. Fecci and Sons chip shop, who pointed out concerns about rubbish in the town and in particular on Lower Frog Street where their premises is located and St George Street nearby.
It was identified that a bin outside Joys gift shop always seemed to get full leading to rubbish being dumped on the floor beside it, despite the bin being emptied quite frequently throughout the day by Pembrokeshire County Council’s waste disposal team.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, the town clerk Andrew Davies said that he and the Mayor had met with PCC’s environmental services operations manager Neil McCarthy to discuss the matter further.
“PCC to have concerns, and said that they were happy to take this problem bin away,” explained Mr. Davies.
Clr. Tony Brown agreed that it was a problem that this bin was constantly overflowing outside a gift shop.
“There are 13 bins along the town walls, and another one right opposite this bin, which never seems to be filled,” said the Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.
“If we remove this one, then we can try and keep that corner tidy,” she added.
Councillors agreed to write back to PCC to state they were in favour of removing the bin.
Clr. Laurence Blackhall also pointed out that the blue bins along the South Parade that had been removed last year, after being labelled an ‘eye sore’ has also ‘crept’ back in that area, despite the county council striking up an agreement with businesses to remove them, so he wondered if the matter could be brought back to the Authority.
