The weekend of September 19, 20 and 21 saw 60 plus veteran, vintage and classic motorcycles converge on Saundersfoot for the 48th Welsh National Saundersfoot Assembly, organised by the West South Wales Section of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club.

On the Friday evening, a social evening was held at the Saundersfoot Sports and Social Club where competitors from across England, Wales and Ireland gathered for a natter and noggin.

On Saturday morning all competitors gathered on Saundersfoot Harbour, by kind permission of the Harbour Commissioners, with their machines which ranged from a 1908 Triumph with sidecar to a 1972 Norton Commando.

At 10 am, the Triumph and sidecar was flagged off together with local councillor Jim Codd riding his 1911 Triumph on the start of an 88-mile journey over less hilly roads than the rest of the field.

At one minute intervals the rest of the entry left the Harbour on a very taxing journey of 100-miles mainly on hilly, narrow and often muddy roads, which took them through Wiseman's Bridge, Amroth, Llanteg, Red Roses, Tavernspite, Llanddowror, Meidrim, Bronwydd Arms, Nantgaredig, Porthyrhyd, Tumble, Llannon, to the excellent lunch halt at the Waun Wyllt Inn, Horeb, Five Roads, Llanelli.

After a one-hour break to fill empty stomachs and quench thirsts, they again set off across Pembrey Mountain to Kidwelly, Ferryside, Carmarthen, Llanstephan and then back along the coastal road through Laugharne and Pendine to Saundersfoot arriving back around 4.30 pm.

On Saturday evening, a dinner was held at the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot, where a wonderful meal was served by the Wiseman's Bridge Inn and the Concours trophies were presented to the winners.

On Sunday morning, the bikes again lined up on the Saundersfoot Harbour where they were admired by a large crowd.

At 12 noon, some of the riders set out on a further social run of 48-miles, arranged by Graham Beasley, which terminated with Sunday lunch at The Old Mill café, Llanddowror. All in all a very successful weekend.

The West South Wales Section of the VMCC would like to thank the Saundersfoot Harbour Commissioners for their kind permission to use the Harbour for this, the premier vintage motorcycle event in Wales.

They would also like to thank the Saundersfoot Sports and Social Club, the Regency Hall, and the Wiseman's Bridge Inn for the use of their facilities and the supply of a wonderful meal.
