Sir,
Whilst taking my daily route around the New Hedges round about, I could not believe the sight before my eyes. What, is that an orchid?
Sure enough, on closer inspection, with camera and wild flower field book in hand, the next day I was able to identify it as a southern marsh orchid (see accompanying photograph).
My family home is a couple of hundred yards from the New Hedges roundabout and the Red House Farm site proposed for development. The orchid illustrates perfectly my point of view on considering whether we really want to or indeed need to develop this area of our precious environment?
The 'green' areas around this part of New Hedges are abundant with wild flowers and insects, all of which support creatures further up the food chain, ensuring beautiful wildlife and scenery for visitors and residents alike to enjoy.
Surely development of this area defeats the object of conservation ideals in Pembrokeshire for everyone? Dinbych-y-Tesco? I think not!
Miss H.A.Morris
