Further warnings over travel conditions across Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, are being issued by the authorities, with snow and sleet expected to become heavier from this afternoon; and overnight road surface temperatures forecast to dip to - 2½°C. Tenby’s Seconday School Ysgol Greenhill, and Saundersfoot Primary School have both closed early today, along with several others across the county.

A spokesperson for Pembrokeshire County Council shared: “This afternoon the weather picture is likely to deteriorate further, particularly across the east of the county.

“Therefore, the Council will be closing some of its services early to enable staff to travel home safely. The schools that opened as normal this morning are closing early.

“Towards the afternoon, snow and sleet may become heavier in the east of the county which will cause travel disruption on untreated roads.

“Overnight road surface temperatures are forecast to dip to - 2½°C with a probability of sleet or even snow falling on the highest ground.

“We have been continuously gritting and patrolling all primary routes since yesterday afternoon and will be carrying out precautionary salting, patrolling and ploughing of the primary and secondary routes this afternoon, throughout the evening and overnight.

“Tomorrow (Tuesday, January 6), road surfaces are forecast to remain below freezing for a sustained period until early afternoon.

“We are experiencing high call volumes, therefore please only call our Contact Centre in an emergency or for urgent reasons; and be mindful that our resources and capacity will be impacted.

“Road users are advised to take care, especially if travelling on untreated roads, and please only travel if essential to do so.

“It is anticipated that the weather will also impact on schools opening tomorrow,” they added.

Dyfed-Powys Police have warned that road conditions are extremely poor across Haverfordwest due to snow and ice; with a number of collisions reported.
