Sir,

I write to ask that the following thank you be placed in the Observer.

Our family had on one of the few good sunny days this last fortnight to attend the beach at Marloes.

My wife and two teenage boys enjoyed the bodysurfing and wave dodging for a good four hours.

However, as time was drawing to a close and the high tide began fast approaching, my two teenage boys were caught by a rip tide and taken swiftly towards the rocks.

In a panic to pull them clear, my wife scrambled in to try to help.

A huge thank you must go to a guy called Julian who took to the water with his bodyboard - he battled the waves to get to all three of them to rescue them.

Julian, if you had not been there, the situation may not have had the ending that it actually did.

After managing to guide my family over the barnacle encrusted rocks, with all suffering many a cut, scratch and bruises, Julian's partner Jo (or was it Joan), a nurse in London, delved into their first aid kit and so began a clean up.

Amongst the mayhem, there were many a beach-user who came forward with extra towels, sweatshirts and picnic blankets to keep them warm and to recover from the shock of this horrible experience.

Another young lady (sorry I do not know her name) scrambled the Marloes cliff face to alert the coastguard and ambulance service who were with us within 30 minutes and were assessing the casualties.

The team assisted my wife up the cliff face and took her to an awaiting ambulance for a thorough checkover.

The crew even returned us to our vehicle some fair distance away.

Sir, the swiftness of Julian's actions, his partner, the rapid response of the coastguard and the ambulance service can not be thanked enough and I would be most grateful if you could include this notification of thanks in the next edition of your paper.

Liam McGahan,

Warwickshire.
