Sir,

May I, through your newspaper, express my thanks to New Hedges Post Office staff and the local postman.

Many of us are critical of late in the day deliveries and first class mail not arriving on time, but I'd like to thank one particular 'postie'. Unfortunately, I do not know his name, but I'm very grateful to him and I'm sure he will recognise himself.

On Monday of last week, I dropped a card into the post box at New Hedges, destined for Australia, but no stamps attached!

Realising my mistake, I went into the post office and explained what I'd done. An extremely helpful 'lady behind the glass' assured me she would do her best to retrieve the card when the collection was made later in the day.

I wasn't very hopeful, knowing how busy postmen are and have to make collections on time.

The card was for a silver wedding anniversary being celebrated later this month and I thought I would be making another card purchase and hopefully get it there on time.

Calling into the post office the following morning, I was surprised to see the same 'lady behind the glass' waving my card at me!

A very co-operative postman, with the help of the obliging post office assistants, had searched through what must have been quite a lot of mail!

I do appreciate their success and would like to say a big thank you to all of them!

M. Palmer
