Last week's news that Narberth Swimming Pool has been saved from closure has been welcomed by local MP, Simon Hart.
"I am delighted that the local community has proved the doubters wrong and achieved their first important goal," he said.
"I hope those who said that 'it can't be done' are suitably embarrassed. There is more to do, but the residents of Narberth have shown that refusing to take no for an answer gets results.
"The fact that Narberth Swimming Pool has been saved from closure is a great example of triumph over adversity, and proof that communities can still achieve great things by refusing to take no for an answer, " he continued. "Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees and everyone involved deserve considerable credit.
"Two things struck me. The first was how determined and resolute local residents were in believing that they could pull this off, the second how convinced one or two people were that they couldn't!
"Whilst there is still some distance to go, I hope this provides inspiration to everyone who battles with 'the system' from time to time. It was only due to the determination of the organisers that the council provided a welcome extension to the original deadline, which enabled success to be achieved."
Meanwhile, Labour Parliamentary Candidate for South Pembrokeshire, Delyth Evans, agreed that the success of the campaign to save Narberth pool was a 'testament to community power'.
Ms Evans said the campaign demonstrated what can be achieved by local people working together to support their community.
"This is a wonderful example of an entire community getting behind a campaign and succeeding," she said. "It has been incredible to see the way so many people have joined in to make a difference, from individuals to schools to local businesses, and the work of the action group has been phenomenal. Instead of just accepting the council's decision to close the pool, they decided to fight for something they believed in, against the odds, and they won. It is a testament to community power and it is an inspiration to other groups to say - you can make a difference."
