Last Thursday saw the Narberth and District Pool League Finals Night take place at the RFC, and another good night of pool was seen by a respectably high turnout.
First off were the Ladies which saw a repeat of the 2007 Final between Ann Marie Owen (Greenbridge B) and Emma Cleeveley (SSSC A). Unfortunately Emma didn't bring her league form with her, and was quickly dispatched by an in form Ann Marie, who took the match 3-0.
The Landlords saw the Greenbridge in action again as Rob Davies enjoyed a great tussle with Steve Lewis (White Horse A), seeing it going to a five-frame decider, and former winner of this knockout (many times) Steve saw his luck run out as he failed to pot his last remaining ball, leaving Rob to claim his first title.
The Doubles saw Neil and Bernard Thomas (Kilgetty RAOB A) once again aiming for another victory, this time against Matthew Thomas and Huw Nicholas (Station House A) and it was the father and son combination that did the trick again as they took the match by 4-2.
The Under 25s saw Marc Thomas (Kilgetty RAOB A) take a 1-0 lead against Wayne Phillips (Greenbridge A), only to be pegged back by a resiliant Wayne, who went on to win the match 3-1 in an entertaining encounter.
The Over 40s saw the old boys swap their walking sticks for pool cues (only joking), with John Goble (Dragon A) taking on Brian James (Whitland Dairies) and in a slightly longer match than anticipated, it was John who emerged the winner by 3-1.
The Captains saw Neil Thomas involved again, this time up against Meirion Rees (Temple Bar A), and Neil picked up his second winners trophy of the night after a 3-1 over the much-respected player.
The Triples saw the Dingle in action for the first time in the night, with Ian and Marc Hughes with Ben James playing the Station House A, represented by Mark George, Steve Owen and Aron Keane, and it was the Narberth side who took control of the match, winning easily by 5-1.
Before the Final Knockouts took place, there was the Player of the Season Cup up for grabs. First off saw Tony Evans (RAOB B) beating Steve Lewis (White Horse A), then Tony went on to beat Ben James (Dingle) to pick up the 'Andrew Lewis Memorial Cup'. The Team Knockout saw the Dingle in action again, taking on league champions Kilgetty RAOB A, and with a score of 5-2, the Kilgetty side emerged the winners and therefore ended up doing the double in the season.
The Singles saw Neil Thomas again, who was hoping to pick up his fourth winning trophy of the night, but unfortunately came across a young man from the Jeffreyston A who had other ideas. Jimmy McKeand, in his first ever final, produced a fine 4-2 win to be crowned singles champion (well done to him, and all the night's winners).
Other trophies awarded on the night were as follows: Wooden Spoon - Begelly Arms; C League runners-up - Station House A; C League winners - White Horse A; B League runners-up - Iron Duke; B League winners -Whitland Dairies; A League runners-up - Dingle; A League winners - Kilgetty RAOB A; Top C League player - Steve Lewis (White Horse A); Top B League player - Tony Evans (RAOB B); Top A League player - Ben James (Dingle); Overall top player - Tony Evans; Top Ladies County and Welsh Division Three County player of 2008 - Helen Hallwood; Top Men's County player of 2008 - Meirion Rees.
