Thirty local children from Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire have taken part in the Pony Club Show at Marros Riding Centre, Marros, Pendine.
Marros Riding Centre has now been an approved Pony Club Centre for 10 months and in August, a show for all the members to participate in was held. A preparation day was held on the Saturday, with the show on the Sunday. This gave all the children an insight to all the hard work involved in getting horses and ponies ready for a show. They groomed and bathed the horses and cleaned the tack thoroughly for the next day.
There was an excellent turnout of parents, grandparents and friends to support the children. The ponies looked stunning and the children were well turned out as well! Classes included Best Turned Out, Best Rider, Clear Round Jumping, Handy Pony and Gymkhana Games. All the children were extremely well behaved and everyone had a fantastic time.
Even the judge, Rosemary McMullan, in a letter to the centre, commented: 'The standard of care and turnout of the horses and ponies was really outstanding. I appreciate how much hard work everyone had put in to produce the animals looking so good. It was a pleasure to judge at a show with such a happy atmosphere.'
Since the Pony Club started last November, numbers have increased to over 60 members. All the children have been working hard on the achievement badges. Some have got as many as five already.
