South Pembrokeshire Hunt branch of Pony Club held their annual camp at Cresselly Home Farm over half-term by kind permission of Andrew and Jacqui Morgan. Over 40 children from age four to 16 took part during the week.
The camp began on Tuesday when the children and their ponies arrived to be divided into teaching groups and teams. After an afternoon of riding, children enjoyed a fun sports evening.
Wednesday was divided between playing Pony Club games, dressage and jumping. In the evening, everyone enjoyed a barbecue at Carew Inn, kindly provided by Mrs. Mandy Hinchliffe.
On Thursday, the young lead rein children decided they had had enough of the heat of the field and trotted off to the pub! The afternoon was spent at Cresswell Quay, to the amusement of the landlord, Mr. Maurice Cole.
Louise Meyrick organised a fun quiz for the children, while their mums enjoyed a well-deserved drink before facing the long hack up the hill - oxygen was provided at base camp!
The older children spent the afternoon entertaining their parents and demonstrating their jumping and dressage skills. In the evening, all the children came together for activities at Heatherton.
On Friday, it was the older children's turn to take off to Cresswell Quay. On arrival, it was so hot, they were all keen to take their ponies into the river, and Rachel Mathias was quick to take off her boots and jump in to join them!
During the week, Simon Jones, kennel huntsman, also kindly gave the lead-rein children a tour of the South Pembrokeshire Hunt kennels at Cresselly, where, with great excitement, they were allowed to hold two of the pups.
All Pony Club members would like to thank Simon for the welcome he gave them.
Graham the vet from Fenton Vet Practice, Haverfordwest, also gave an interesting talk on all aspects of equine veterinary care, which the children particularly enjoyed.
A prize-giving was held at the end of week when rosettes were presented to all teams, awards to individuals who had achieved a great deal during the week and fun awards to the characters that made camp so much fun.
South Pembrokeshire Pony Club would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Morgan for the use of Home Farm; Carew Inn for the barbecue; and Cresselly Cricket Club for the use of their excellent facilities which made camp such a great success.
