The Senedd has backed the Plaid Cymru Government’s motion calling for enhanced fiscal flexibilities, a review of the Barnett formula, and to reaffirm the commitment of £14billion of railway funding by the UK Labour Government.

The motion comes five months after Plaid Cymru’s Senedd election win where they committed to ‘stand up for Wales’ and demand ‘fair funding’ for Wales and its communities.

The vote was supported by most parties in the Senedd, showing that fair funding from Westminster is supported across the Chamber.

After the Senedd voted in favour of the Plaid Cymru motion on October 5, Plaid Cymru MS, Sera Evans, described it as a ‘significant moment’ that shows that Wales ‘will no longer accept the failing status quo’.

Reform UK voted against the motion, a decision that proves they ‘do not have the interests of the people of Wales at heart’, according to the Plaid Cymru MS.

Sera Evans, said: "Today’s vote is a significant moment that sends a clear signal to Westminster – Wales will no longer accept the failing status quo.

“Wales has been shortchanged by Westminster for too long. Our railways have been starved of investment for decades, and our communities are still being underfunded day in, day out.

“While Reform UK have shown they’re happy with being undermined and underfunded – we won’t let the status quo continue.

"Changing the way Wales is funded would allow us to invest directly into communities, provide an essential injection of funding into our transport network to connect communities, and improve the lives of everybody in Wales.

“Wales’ voice cannot be ignored. The UK Labour Government must listen and unlock funding that could unleash the potential of communities the length and breadth of our nation.”
