Plaid Cymru’s leader has called for renewed commitment to peace on Armistice Day...

Marking Armistice Day, Plaid Cymru leader, Rhun ap Iorwerth MS has paid tribute to the lives lost to war and conflict and called for a renewed commitment to create a ‘safer, more peaceful world’.

“On Armistice Day, we remember those lost to war and conflict, and strive for a peaceful future for all,” he said.

“We’re reminded of the fragility of peace, and the emptiness of the words that portrayed the First World War as a war to bring an end to all wars.

“In Sudan, Ukraine, Gaza and elsewhere – the horrors of oppression and violence bring pain and misery that we cannot imagine, with millions of people having to flee their homes.

“Today, let us keep one value in mind: compassion.

“As we remember those who have fallen: soldiers and civilians, victims and survivors, let us honour their memory not only through silence today on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, but through what we choose to do next.

“To stand firmly for peace and reinforce our commitment to create a safer, more peaceful world, where every person in every nation can live without fear.”
