Pembrokeshire goes to the polls today (Thursday) for the county, town and community council elections.
Thirteen of the county seats will not be contested as there is only one candidate for each, including the two Tenby wards, where current members Michael Williams and Michael Evans will be returned unopposed.
Nevertheless, some interesting fights are in the offing, not least in Saundersfoot, where former county council chairman Rosemary Hayes will again be looking to make a return to the authority by ousting incumbent councillor Phil Baker, who has held the seat since 2008.
Just up the road in the Kilgetty/Begelly ward, sitting member David Pugh will also have a fight on his hands against another independent Peter John Adams and Plaid Cymru’s Gretta Elaine Marshall, while Jacob Williams, who became one of the youngest ever members when he was first elected five years ago, will be hoping to hold on to his seat as he takes on Mackie Harts in East Williamston.
Another interesting contest is at Carew, where Norman Parry will be looking to win back the seat he first lost in 2004, but he will again come up against sitting member David Neale, as well as Plaid Cymru’s Paul Rapi, former head of music at Tenby’s Greenhill School.
