Simon Hart MP has welcomed the news that Welsh beef and lamb will back on the menu in the US by January - for the first time in 20 years.

The US deemed red meats unfit for consumption and banned during the height of the UK’s ‘mad cow disease’ scandal.

Mr. Hart lobbied key US officials during a visit by the Welsh Select Committee to Washington DC earlier this year.

“Myself and Jonathan Edwards from Carmarthenshire East discussed the ban with trade officials while we were there,” said Mr. Hart. “It was ridiculous that wonderful Welsh lamb was still banned from the US when every other country in the world accepts it.

“I am delighted at this news which will be a major boost to Wales’ lamb and beef producers.”
