Plaid Cymru has revealed new figures showing just how much time Labour MPs are spending attacking Plaid in the House of Commons – proof, the party says, that Labour are running scared ahead of the 2026 Senedd election.

House of Commons Library analysis of Questions to the Secretary of State for Wales since January shows that Labour MPs have mentioned Plaid Cymru 16 times in just five sessions – an average of more than three times per sitting.

Labour MPs mentioned the Conservatives 38 times, which is to be expected given their role as the official opposition.

Plaid’s four MPs have had far fewer opportunities to respond to attacks due to the parliamentary ballot system. Labour MPs mentioned Reform just twice during the same period.

The figures reveal a pattern of Labour MPs repeatedly attacking Plaid Cymru through “planted questions”, despite Plaid’s small parliamentary group and limited opportunities to respond.

Plaid Cymru argues this demonstrates just how rattled Labour are about the party’s rising support ahead of the 2026 election.

Most of the attacks focused on Plaid Cymru’s opposition to the Labour Welsh Government’s Budget – opposition rooted in the fact that Wales remains short-changed under Labour, despite promises that having two Labour governments would fix the underfunding of Welsh public services.

Plaid Cymru Westminster leader, Liz Saville Roberts MP, said: “Labour can’t stop talking about Plaid Cymru. They are in government in both London and Cardiff, holding a large majority of Welsh seats at Westminster. Yet instead of focusing on delivering positive solutions to Wales’ problems, they’re rehashing planted questions and looking over their shoulders in fear of Plaid. The more they say our name, the clearer it is who they’re really worried about.

“Labour’s obsession with Plaid tells you everything – they’re rattled,” she added.
