Plaid Cymru has chosen local ‘community champion’ Billy Shaw to stand for the forthcoming Pembrokeshire County Council by-election in Fishguard North East.

Billy is a former British Army Biomedical Scientist and NHS Senior Scientist, bringing a wealth of experience in health and public service.

He is the current Mayor of Fishguard, where he has led community projects and championed health, education, and veteran support.

Billy is well known for his commitment to the town and surrounding area, working tirelessly to strengthen community ties.

The by-election has come around following the sad death of County Councillor Jordan Ryan in November.

Billy said:“The circumstances of this by-election, which arose following the death of Jordan Ryan, are of course very sad and my thoughts remain with Jordan’s family and loved ones."

“As the current Mayor of Fishguard, I know how important it is to serve this community with passion and dedication. Our area deserves a strong and committed voice, and I’m ready to bring energy, ideas and fresh thinking to make a real difference for Fishguard North East.”

Ben Lake, Plaid Cymru MP for Ceredigion Preseli said:“Billy Shaw has a proven track record of standing up for his community and will be a strong voice for Fishguard North East.

"People locally need a councillor who will fight for essential services and champion the interests of the area. Billy brings energy, experience and a deep understanding of the challenges we face.”

On the passing of Cllr Jordan, returning Officer for PCC Will Bramble previously said: “We were all deeply saddened to hear of the death of Cllr Jordan Ryan, who joined our Council in 2022.”

The by-election in Fishguard North East will take place on Tuesday, February 10.

Poll cards will be sent to electors before the election that will indicate which polling station to vote at.
