Young people who ride mini-motorcyles and scooters could be liable for prosecution if they are not properly licensed, insured or wearing a helmet. That's the warning from local police inspector Les Clark who has been receiving reports about youngsters using such machines in contravention of traffic regulations. Insp. Clark has now instructed officers that when they come across such offences they consider seizing the machine as a matter of safety for the youngster concerned. Insp. Clark has this week issued a reminder to youngsters that if mini-motorcyclists and scooters are being used on a road, the rider must be properly licensed, wear a helmet and, crucially, be insured. "These conditions apply even for use in car parks and playing fields," said Insp. Clark, who also warned that in certain circumstances, other persons could be prosecuted for allowing the offences to take place. "Parents must be aware that if injury is caused to anybody because of their children's use of the motorcycle and no insurance is held, then they may end up being sued for compensation," Insp. Clark added.
