Local police have praised New Year revellers for giving them a relatively trouble-free night.

While the heavy rain and high winds may have put a damper on some celebrations and the number of party-goers was down in Tenby's Tudor Square compared to previous years, a large crowd gathered in neighbouring Saundersfoot for a fireworks display which heralded in 2004.

"There were no major problems and although there were incidents of minor damage and one person was arrested in Tenby on suspicion of a public order offence, the majority of people were good natured and extremely well behaved," Sergeant Howard Lloyd told the Observer.
