Dyfed Powys Police has welcomed the announcement by the Home Office of funding of £339,887 for the Workforce Modernisation Project.
"The monies will assist Dyfed Powys Police in our medium to long-term strategy to improve custody detention facilities throughout the force area," said Chief Inspector John Stretton, of the operations department at police headquarters.
"The appointment of full-time civilian custody detention officers will improve the safety and security of both detainees and staff in the custody suites and allow the release of operational police officers back to front line duties at the earliest opportunity.
"The custody detention officers, as well as looking after the welfare and individual needs of detainees, will also perform tasks previously undertaken by police officers, such as taking fingerprints, photographs, and DNA, and will assist in the escorting of detainees, both inside and outside the force area."
