Tenby's police chief, Inspector Les Clark, has hit out at the unacceptable level of aggression that has been displayed towards traffic wardens in the town this summer season.
"Traffic wardens are entitled to a normal level of respect when doing what can be at times a difficult job and I have taken a firm line against those who abuse them," said Insp. Clark, who also revealed that one person had been reported for summons with others to be spoken to in the near future and reported for public offences connected to the abuse of traffic wardens.
So far this year, officers and traffic wardens have issued 1,267 fixed penalty notices for parking offences in Tenby, representing a substantial increase over the same period last year. Each notice attracts a fine of £30, making a total of £38,010, none of which goes to the police service, but is forwarded to local government.
