TENBY SWIFTS U13s 60 pts

PEMBROKE U13s 10

The 13s knew they would have to be at their best to get a result against last year's Pembrokeshire champions. Tenby were virtually at full strength and, having played only one game this season, were very much up for the encounter.

From the kick-off Tenby imposed themselves and soon made good ground into the Pembroke 22. A maul ensued and an eagle-eyed Rob Colley pounced on a loose ball and made a devastating surge for the line to open the scoring.

From the kick-off, Robbie Tuttle collected and set off on a run, but nobody could touch him in full flight and he romped home under the posts. Olly Morgan comfortably converted.

The Tenby pack were immense and constantly had the visitors on the back foot. The front row of James Dick, Jack Lawrence and Rob Colley never gave an inch all game. Ben Messenger and Robbie Tuttle both put in strong performances, and James Davies hassled the Pembroke backs all day. Danny Harris showed good hands and Dan Colley ran things with confidence at number eight.

It was Dan Colley who picked up a fine try, barging his way over after collecting a clever inside pass from James Davies.

Davies himself got on the score sheet 10 minutes later after winger Josh Bevan consolidated good second phase ball. Scrum-half Sam Foster fed Davies who charged over for five points.

The backs threw the ball about to good effect. Half-backs Foster and Olly Morgan both had superb games, with Foster getting things moving and Morgan weaving in and out of tackles, getting over the gain line and feeding centres Jack Bevan and Bobby Briers. Both these guys played clever rugby and hardly missed a tackle all day.

The wingers were never far from the action as the ball was spread out wide. Mathew Jones showed a good turn of speed and a strong tackling technique. Josh Bevan had the game of his life and the ball stuck to his hands picking upon the sprint and came close to the try line on several occasions.

David Saunders at fullback was full of running, considering he stepped on a nail just before the game, and scored a try out of the top drawer, outpacing the Pembroke defence.

Tuttle powered over for another try. Briers and Bevan got one apiece after good hands from the backs. Morgan got in on the act and should have had another and Dan Colley finished things off with a fine individual effort near the end.

Tenby went to sleep for the last 10 minutes and Pembroke fought back well, with notable performances from hooker Reece Jelly and number eight Robert Hay. These two helped their team to two fine tries near the end.

Successful conversions were taken by Rob Colley, Briers, Foster and Morgan.

Near the end of the game, David Saunders took a knock to his leg and is now in plaster after hospital treatment. All his team-mates and coaches wish him a speedy recovery.

Tenby fielded: James Dick, Danny Harris, Ben Messenger, James Davies, Dan Colley, Robbie Tuttle, Jack Lawrence, Rob Colley, Sam Foster, Bobby Briers, Jack Bevan, Mathew Jones, Joshua Bevan, David Saunders, Oliver Morgan.

A glorious sunny Sunday morning at Heywood Lane was the scene for a huge win by the Under 11s. Pembroke unfortunately were never in it and the game was a one-sided affair from start to finish.

Apart from the handling skills shown by the Tenby boys, the most encouraging aspect was the fact that they were prepared to pass the ball to colleagues to involve the whole team in attacking moves when in certain games this season the individual might have hung onto the ball for too long.

This facet was a luxury afforded by this particular game but should be carried forward and applied in more evenly contested games.

One can commend Pembroke for never throwing in the towel and showing some spirit right to the final whistle despite the overwhelming odds against them.

Matthew Jackson scored their only consolation try after some fine runs by Tom Bullivant.

Tenby fielded the following team, with players' scores shown in parenthsis following the name: Joseff Morris (1T) Yannic Parker, Jack Baker, Oliver Goldwait, Patrick Roberts (1T, 9 cons), Keifer Thomson (1 con), Jamie Williams (3T), Toby Smith (2T), James Criddle (2T), Matthew Davies (4T), James Canton, Robert Jones and Sean Davies.
