Pirates and princesses, spidermen and seagulls were among the colourful characters on parade at Tenby's Firemen's Carnival on Wednesday evening. The fun started early in the day with festivities centered around the town's Fire Station in South Parade, where a feast of fun for all the family, included attractions ranging from a vintage fire engine and coffee morning, to firefighting demonstrations and a bouncy castle, plus a visit from Fireman Sam and various side stalls. As the clock ticked round to 5.15 pm, the final preparations were made, and the parade, led by the Swansea East Carnival Display Band, burst into life, bringing the narrow streets alive with a blaze of colour and party atmosphere as it wound its way around the town with a fire brigade and police escort. With the aim once again to boost local firemen's fund-raising efforts for the Benevolent Fund, participants pulled out all the stops, coming up with a wide range of colourful walking entries and floats, which featured topical and imaginative creations, plus traditional favourites. And of course, no carnival would be complete with out a Queen, and smiling Katy Rossiter and her attendants, Ella Brace and Bethan Jones, enjoyed a ride on a vintage fire engine, while Carnival Princess Merissa Turner and her attendants, Georgina Turner and Emmy Ravenscroft, looked pretty as a picture aboard their flower-decked float. Also joining in the seaside frolics was Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, town crier John Thomas and mace bearer Rob Scanlon, who waved regally from a brigade appliance. Delighted with the success of the festivities was chairman of Tenby Fire Station's Benevolent Fund, Kris Steele. "We really had a cracking day from beginning to end," he said. "It really was a very good day and everything went superbly," he added, giving special thanks to carnival sponsors Kiln Park and Tenby House Hotel. After the procession wound through the town, it was with bated breath that the results were announced at Tudor Square. The judges were the Allen family, of Ammanford, while the winners were presented with their prizes by Clr. Mrs. Lane. Results were:
