Sir,

What have Age Concern, Friends of the Earth and the Child Poverty Action Group all got in common?

They all strongly support a Private Members Bill aimed at making homes more energy efficient and cutting fuel costs. This would help people in Pembrokeshire cope with energy bills that have risen substantially over the past year or so, particularly poor families and pensioners. The measure would also cut carbon emissions by improving home insulation and thereby combat climate change.

The second reading of the Fuel Poverty Bill, proposed by Liberal Democrat MP David Heath, will take place at Westminster on Friday, March 20. MPs are unlikely to vote against the Bill, but it needs 100 supporters in the House to ensure it will pass. I urge readers of the Tenby Observer to join me in writing to Nick Ainger, at the House of Commons, SW1A 0AA, to ask him to be in the chamber to support the Bill.

Mrs. Muir Bird,

Tenby.
