REHEARSALS are now well underway for Tenby Players' next production of 'On Golden Pond', a play that was a great hit on Broadway in the 1970s and subsequently a box-office record-breaking film starring Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn.
The director will be David Owen, who told the Observer: "This is a charming play that will be rewarding to perform, and will be first-class entertainment for our Tenby audiences. It is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the 44th year.
"He is a retired professor, nearing 80, with heart palpitations and a failing memory, but still as tart-tongued, observant and eager for life as ever. Ethel, 10 years younger, and the perfect foil for Norman, delights in all the small things which have enriched their long life together.
"They are visited by their middle-aged daughter and her dentist fiance, with his teenage son by a previous marriage. The play is then about the complex relationships in this family, and how they develop over the course of the summer."
The leading role of Norman is also being played by David Owen, with Liz Storey taking the part of Ethel. Hilary and Len Harvey will be playing the middle-aged couple, and his teenage son will be played by Lloyd Ayris (who won the award for Best Supporting Actor at the Pembrokeshire One Act Play Festival last year). Andrew Davies is playing the cameo role of a postman.
The play will be presented at the De Valence pavilion on April 4, 5 and 6 at 8 pm.
