Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, town clerk Andrew Davies told members that a beacon had been ordered and that he had liaised with the local Sea Cadets who were happy to co-ordinate a lighting ceremony.
Mr. Davies said that they were now looking at a location for the beacon, with Castle Hill a possibility.
He also said that St. Mary’s Church were organising a special ‘Queen’s Birthday’ flower festival to celebrate the occasion and that perhaps a bigger celebration could be planned for the town over that weekend.
Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter also suggested that the occasion could be marked by renaming one of the town’s gardens after Her Majesty.
“It’s been a very long time since the Queen visited Tenby, and I was a little girl, so it must have been a long time ago...and then she only passed through on the train, so perhaps we could get another visit,” said Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter.
“She has given a lifetime service to her country, so I think it would be nice if we recognised this,” she added.
