Saundersfoot village’s transformation continues with the next phase of a multi-million redevelopment of the harbour area taking shape.
Phase one, most of which was completed in 2015, saw visitor pontoons and moorings, an outer slipway and dry boat racking introduced to redevelop the harbour’s marine facilities.
Phase two which is currently underway will provide the Marine Centre of Excellence housing the Wales International Coastal Centre.
Following approval by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park’s development management committee for the plans, the re-development of the ‘Coal Office’ building, when completed, will see the building become the Ocean Square Heritage, Interpretation and Welcome Centre, which will include an all-weather covered plaza, events area and commercial units.
The centre will also provide visitors to Saundersfoot with information about the history of the coal mining industry in the area.
Just across the harbour area, the Marine Centre of Excellence being constructed will offer a unique trading location and proximity to the beach and coast.
The developments fully support Visit Wales’ intent to increase the use of the location’s coastal waters for recreational use, with the investment completely reshaping the harbour into what will become the ‘Wales International Coastal Centre’.
