A call to expand a “high quality” eco-friendly holiday complex in Pembrokeshire with extra “bespoke” accommodation has been submitted to county planners.

In an application to Pembrokeshire County Council, Jeff and Karen Loo of Asheston Eco Barns, through agent Hayston Developments & Planning Ltd, are seeking permission to expand an existing holiday complex at Asheston Eco Barns, Pen Y Cwm, with an extra two units.

A supporting statement through the agent says the existing holiday let units have operated for some years since being granted consent in 2007.

It says the latest application “presents a scheme to provide a second phase of bespoke holiday units on land in our client’s ownership,” adding it is, “in response to demand for eco-friendly holiday accommodation in Pembrokeshire and the popularity of the West Pembrokeshire area”.

“The proposed linked expansion would be sited on land in our client’s ownership and will be adjacent to the existing holiday let units, we believe the site can satisfactorily accommodate the scale of development proposed and presenting a high-quality design appropriate to its setting, and it would not detract from the semi-rural character and appearance of the locality.”

The proposal would provide a four-bedroom holiday unit for a 1.5 storey element and a two-bedroom holiday unit for a single-story element.

“The proposal would provide modern and high-quality bespoke holiday accommodation. The proposal would provide all year-round holiday accommodation in accordance with the overall tourism objectives of the council,” the statement says.

It concludes: “The application site lies within the countryside. The adjoining use in the applicant’s ownership is an existing holiday use business (five units). It is submitted that a countryside location is essential for the proposed use as it relates to an extension to an existing tourism accommodation business on the site.

“Asheston Eco Barns provides high-quality self-catering accommodation with good reviews from guests, particularly noting its location providing easy access to the north and south of the county. Holiday letting is a key part of the applicant’s employment and income base, and the proposal would extend that.”
