A ‘petty change’ to the way that people spend a penny in Tenby, with complaints over toilet machines not giving change, have been labelled as trivial by a local councillor.
The introduction of paying 20p to use public conveniences in Tenby has been discussed by councillors in recent weeks, with members stating that the charge brought in by Pembrokeshire County Council was ‘unavoidable.’
However, councillors had requested that the coin machines at the facilities at least be fitted so that change could be given to people using them who did not have the correct amount to hand.
The company tasked with maintaining the facilities Danfo, stated in feedback that they had concerns that any coin change machine would be liable to vandalism, and have suggested that places such as the town’s Information Centre, which is open until 5 pm from Monday to Saturday, are happy to provide visitors with change, as well as other businesses in Tenby.
“After 5 pm, things don’t stop in this town, and other businesses need their change too!” commented Clr. Trevor Hallett at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council.
“I think we’re being a bit petty now,” remarked Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane. “Most people have a handful of change in their pockets or can simply go and ask for it somewhere.
“We should just be glad that we have our public toilets working in the town,” she added.
