Councillors in Tenby have been given a progress update on improvement works along Heywood Lane encompassing Greenhill School, with Pembrokeshire County Council planning the next phase of works for February and over the Easter break.
Correspondence from the authority’s Anthony Price came before members of Tenby Town Council at their meeting on Tuesday night, in which he stated that Greenhill School playing field and access improvement works were ‘advancing well’, having commenced on site in July.
“During the summer holiday we advanced the realignment works to Heywood Lane - these works were substantially completed during the school break, with only the new section of footway opposite the school being advanced during the first half of the autumn term,” he said.
“We then utilised the mid-term break to complete the new road surfacing to the frontage of the school along Heywood Lane. The corridor for the new school access was also started during the summer holiday - this was a great advantage as the excavations were completed with better weather conditions, and enabled the contractor to double up the workforce, installing drainage, kerbing and initial sub-base construction.”
Mr. Price explained that whilst the works were being undertaken, agreements for the cottage and tree removals were discussed, agreed and programmed.
Initial playing field improvements were also completed during this period, with the lower field being reconstructed to final levels, removing undulations and stone outcrops, with the area being renewed with imported topsoil and turfed.
“Following the demolition of the cottage, the next phase of road construction commenced, this is programmed to be kerbed and prepared for binder course tarmacking over the mid-term break, from February 19,” continued Mr. Price.
Other planned works for the first half of spring will include - construction of reconfigured parking area north of the school kitchens; installation of root barriers for the planting areas; fencing; commencement of landscaping/mitigation works; installation/preparation works for new street lighting.
During the second half of the spring term, the following is programmed - the final excavation/removal of the existing access road; continued playing field construction works; construction works to tie the new access road into existing road adjacent to the school; footway link from playing field to the school main access; street lighting completion works/commission.
“With the final road surfacing and road markings planned to be completed over the Easter break, between April 3 and 15, a second road closure on the Heywood Lane/Serpentine Road junction will be applied for to allow the construction of the new mini-roundabout junction,” added Mr. Price.
