A shop on Tenby’s High Street which has ignored the conservation area’s policy on illuminated signage, should be strongly dealt with, local councillors stated this week.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, the town clerk, Andrew Davies, said that the premises, which erected internally illuminated signage, which had since been refused permission by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, was now being investigated.

“PCNPA’s enforcement officer is dealing with it, but it could take up to 12 weeks to investigate, we have been told,” said Mr. Davies.

“I might send a card from an independent trader to the chief executive of The Card Factory, to tell them that it is a blatant contravention of the planning process, and the company needs to get its act together and turn off the lighting!” stated the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Laurence Blackhall.

“I don’t think it’s acceptable for The Card Factory to put up this signage in breach of the planning rules. The application was given to the National Parks and refused. If there are rules in place, then they need to have rigourous enforcement,” he continued.

Clr. Will Rossiter said that the Co-op at the Green had also recently ‘ignored’ the rules about illuminated signage.
