There was unanimous support for a 12-bedroom dementia unit proposed in Ambleston last week.
The application for Parc Y Llyn Nursing and Residential Home’s single-storey, contemporary design, extension, providing a 12 en-suite bedroom dementia unit, activity room, sitting room and lounge/dining room, was supported by planning officers and councillors.
Also included in the plans is an animal assisted therapy unit space with a report to planning committee adding it will all be connected to the existing care home by a corridor link.
The specialist care provided will be available for Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire residents with the report adding that the only registered dementia nursing home in north Pembrokeshire closed, leaving a gap in service provision of 37 beds.
It will be built at the back of the existing care home and be screened by mature vegetation and trees, with the nearby scheduled ancient monument unaffected, adds the report.
The planning committee voted unanimously to approve the application at its reconvened meeting on August 5.
