A plan to relocate static caravans in a south Pembrokeshire park was given the go-ahead by county planners this week.
Oakland Caravan Park, of Summerhill, near Amroth, sought a change of use of land for the relocation of seven static caravans.
The application was recommended for conditional approval when it came before Pembrokeshire County Council’s planning committee on February 14, which heard there would be no increase in the number of caravans on the site.
A report for members stated: “The application seeks permission for the change of use of the land for the relocation of seven static caravans into an undeveloped field adjoining the northern boundary of the caravan park.
“The proposed development includes creation of a new access into the field from the western corner of the existing site, creation of a new road along with ecological and environmental enhancements.”
Local community council Amroth had no formal objection, but felt the position of relocated caravans on higher land could lead to them overlooking neighbouring properties, adding that aerial photography submitted with the application was out of date.
Two letters of objection raised concerns, including the justification for the development, the positioning off the caravans, the loss of hedgerows, and visual impact.
At the planning meeting, agent Oliver Cooper told members that planning officers said a perceived visual impact raised by neighbours would be “negligible,” adding the proposals were considered to be “wholly compliant” with planning regulations.
Neighbour of the site Dorian Evans, speaking on behalf of fellow objectors, said there were concerns about visual impact, extra traffic and an “infill” of the area, asking for a site visit before any decision was made.
Councillor Brian Hall, who said he had “a lot of sympathy for the objector,” had initially proposed a site visit, withdrawing after further information on the application was provided.
Cllr Hall, who then moved approval, felt the caravan relocations would actually lead to less visual impact.
Members agreed to conditionally approve the application.
