Town councillors have agreed to move forward with an enhancement scheme of one of Tenby’s gardens.

A recent meeting of the Tenby Town Regeneration Team saw project plans for Battery Gardens discussed, with a design for a ‘Gorsedd’ style stone circle placed in the middle of the gardens.

Pembrokeshire County Council had proposed that the project could all be achievable within a budget of between £20,000 and £25,000, if match funded by the town council, but the plans had previously left councillors with mixed feelings.

At Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, members were presented with five different concept plans for the gardens, and opted in the end for one that didn’t feature the centre circle stones.

“With a large project not financially viable at the moment, I think we should be looking at the simplest plan,” suggested Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.

Clr. Lawrence Blackhall agreed that option four of the five proposals looked like the best way to go as the seating arranged was situated at a good vantage point, he believed.

Clr. Mrs. Lane asked for the seating to be stone bench style, as this would involve less maintenance work.

“Apart from grass cutting and tidying, this option appears to offer the least maintenance, something we need to consider until we can go further ahead with this project down the line,” she added.
